is proud to present 4 day workshop in Percussion and Rhythm with Juma
Sheta January 21-24, 2009 here at DCMA.
After highly successful seminars with Bi Kidude (Unyago) in November and Haji Gora Haji (Lyrics) in December 2008, this workshop is the third in a series of workshops with veteran Zanzibari musicians initiated by DCMA.
Juma Sheta is a senior member of the Taarab Orchestra Culture Musical Club as well as of the National Taarab Orchestra. In this seminar Juma Sheta will give an overview about history and use of different drums used in Zanzibari traditional music: Rika, Bongos, Dumbak, and Cherewa. He will also give an introduction on the different rhythms used in Taarab.
This short theoretical introduction is followed by 3 days of practical exercises with the participants, mostly percussion students of the Music Academy, but also other invited musicians from Mahonda and Pemba.
