Biography:

The late Andrew Scrivener (1961 - 2005) was a dedicated and oustanding musician who held a position in the first Violin section of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Manchester for over 20 years.

Andrew died on the 6th of August 2005 while trekking in Colombia at the age of 44. His death was a great shock to his family and friends. On 28th August 2005 the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra dedicated their performance of Verdi's Requiem to Andrew's memory. The entire orchestra travelled to attend his funeral and the many hundreds of cards and letters from around the world gave testimony to the fact that Andrew touched many people in his life.

Andrew's family has decided to emulate his humanitarian spirit, his kindness and interest in assisting other people in music by setting up a scholarship fund in his name.

The Dhow Countries Music Academy is very gratetful to the Scrivener family for extending their support to young talents amongst its students.
