N’faly Kouyaté was born in Guinea and now lives in Europe where he is one of the most celebrated kora players. During the Sauti za Busara 2008 and in collaboration with the Festival organisers, he and his group The Dunyakan held two workshops at the DCMA. The first was a public session open to the public whereby he gave an introductin to the Kora and some of the other instruments used by him and his band.

The second session lasted a whole day and was meant only for musicians since N’fally and his group worked with several local as well as visiting artists on singing techniques, West African rhythms and dancing. Goal was to improvise and develop new interpretations of traditional Swahili songs as well as creating East - West African sound-scapes.

Many of those who attended these workshops later on said that for them the afternoon with N’faly and his band Dunyakan was one of the highlights of this year’s festival.
